The death of Chauvinism

We often listen that a man has killed his wife, his girlfriend or if he has not killed her, he batters her. But, why do they do that? Some of them say that she deserves it, others say that it is her fault. But I think that it is NEVER like they say. These women always bear that because they have a child or they really love their man.

Chauvinism is not a behaviour that has appeared lately. It has existed for a long time since the man thinks that he is better than a woman. The difference is that in the past, society thought that this behaviour was normal. Now luckily, society condemns these acts, but there are still people that think it is normal. The situation that (well, I haven´t gone through it) my parents lived when Franco was governing Spain was that women could not do anything without the permission of their husbands. This is a clear example of chauvinism.

Remember that in the first Spanish republic women could not vote and they have not always had the same rights as men. Nowadays the situation has changed. Women have the same rights as men but it is not really like that. There are still countries in the world where there is a very chauvinistic society, islamic communities are a clear example. I don´t understand why some people think this way. Why do they think that they are better than other people, especially women?

To finish this composition, I must say that despite the fact that nowadays we have a society that condemns this behaviour, there are still women who die every day in the hands of their husbands or boyfriends. Why does it happen? I think it does because society sees that as a common behaviour and because they see that men who do it receive very light punishments compared with the punishment they should have.
